Motorcycle engines have specific performance differences to those used in passenger cars. Apart from their high revving nature and their ability to release power quickly, they may run with wet clutches and operate at considerably higher temperatures, particularly if they are air-cooled. Motorcycle engine oils are carefully formulated to eliminate wet clutch slippage, provide protection to critical components under shock load conditions and ensure engine cleanliness and integrity is maintained at high operating temperatures. These engine oils may also be used as a gearbox lubricant and as such need to stay in grade despite being subjected to high shear forces.
