Morris Lubricants Achieves EcoVadis Gold in 2025 Through Long-Term Sustainability Action Plan
Morris Lubricants has secured the EcoVadis Gold Award in 2025, recognising the company as one of the leading performers in sustainability within its sector. The company has done this by taking a group-wide approach and focusing on the various criteria set by EcoVadis. Paterson Enterprises, Morris Lubricants’ parent company were proud to announce that it had achieved the Gold award rating for 2025 based on the operations around the Morris Lubricants' site in Shrewsbury. This put the company in the top five per cent of businesses that are evaluated from the industry worldwide.
A Structured, Long-Term Strategy Recognised by EcoVadis
Having gained 4 consecutive EcoVadis awards since 2022, this recent achievement reflects a multi‑year commitment to improving its environmental performance, strengthening responsible sourcing practices and enhancing its social impact. The business has operated with a clear long-term goal to reach net zero emissions by 2040, and the EcoVadis rating highlights the measurable progress made so far.
EcoVadis assesses over 130,000 companies globally on an annual basis and this award recognises companies for their sustainable practices and their relationships with trading partners. Only 35 per cent of companies assessed by EcoVadis, achieve an award. The assessment criteria covers four sustainability pillars: the environment, ethics, labour and human rights and sustainable procurement.
The company’s sustainability strategy is aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on sustainable industrialisation, innovation, responsible consumption, reduced energy use, waste minimisation and collaborative partnerships. This structured approach ensures continuous improvement and embeds sustainability across its operations. Many initiatives implemented today are designed to have lasting benefits for future generations, contributing directly to the organisation’s prestigious Gold rating.
Advancing Sustainable Manufacturing and Distribution
Morris Lubricants has undertaken a series of operational improvements designed to reduce carbon emissions, increase efficiency and support long-term environmental responsibility:
- The delivery fleet now operates using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a fuel alternative synthesised from 100 per cent renewable raw materials such as vegetable oils, animal oils and fats. This supports a significant reduction in net CO2 greenhouse gas emissions.
- The company’s Shrewsbury manufacturing facility uses electricity generated from on-site solar panels and purchases zero carbon energy from the Grid to further reduce scope 2 emissions.
- Ultrasonic blending technology is employed to minimise the need for heat during the production of oil formulations, contributing to substantial energy savings.
- The use of artificial dyes is continually reviewed, with reductions made wherever possible due to their potential environmental impact.
- The company prioritises metal packaging because it can be recycled repeatedly without degradation.
- When plastic packaging is required, containers incorporate 35 per cent recycled material.
- Regular energy and production management analysis supports waste reduction and enhanced operational efficiency across the manufacturing process.
These tangible actions demonstrate a clear, structured approach to resource management and carbon reduction, key elements of the EcoVadis evaluation criteria.
Strengthening Supply Chain Transparency and Procurement Standards
Sustainable procurement plays a critical role in EcoVadis assessments, and Morris Lubricants has worked closely with its suppliers to strengthen oversight and transparency. All key suppliers are required to follow the company’s code of conduct and comply with strict environmental, health and safety standards. This ensures responsible sourcing of raw materials and supports higher levels of accountability across the supply chain.
Demonstrating Social Responsibility and Community Impact
Alongside its environmental work, Morris Lubricants has invested heavily in its people and the communities in which it operates. The company delivers education and training programmes for employees at all levels, from apprenticeships to senior leadership development. This consistent investment in workforce skills and wellbeing supports long-term organisational resilience.
Within the local community, the company provides ongoing support to charities, where contributions make a direct and measurable impact. Morris Lubricants also sponsors grassroots sports teams and facilities, recognising their role in promoting social engagement and mental wellbeing.
Continuing the Journey to Net Zero
Earning the EcoVadis Gold Award reflects the collective effort of teams across the business and reinforces the company’s long-term sustainability strategy. The award demonstrates that Morris Lubricants is progressing strongly towards its 2040 net zero target while maintaining high standards in environmental stewardship, ethical practice and social responsibility.
